On Sunday, Adam Mulawarman Tugio, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Pakistan stated that Indonesia is intent on a $50bn e-commerce trade with Pakistan by 2025.

The Indonesian Ambassador presented the fact that Indonesia and Pakistan have a large youth population that can benefit from this e-commerce global trade plan, and that it will produce numerous job opportunities for the countries involved.

“There are vast opportunities in e-commerce trade between Pakistan and Indonesia, which will increase trade and investment opportunities on both sides,” Tugio said.

Another fact that was presented by the Ambassador was the whooping value of $4.28 trillion which had been made in 2020 globally through e-commerce sales. The figure is expected to hit $5.4 trillion by 2022, this is forecasted due to the current era of IT and online connectivity among big global brands as well as the small ones. Tugio stated that this situation presents great opportunities.

According to the Indonesian Ambassador, if Pakistan and Indonesia unify, the bilateral trade will increase and the youth side of both countries will collaborate on the basis of business and trade.

“With such connections, young people from both countries can benefit from each other’s experiences and skills to promote economic and cultural integration,” Tugio insisted.

He also said that by integrating e-commerce within both countries the tourism department will be easier to promote. Unified steps like these will also solidify the bond between Indonesia and Pakistan. Tugio claimed that these two countries are among the most beautiful countries on Earth and by promoting tourism the economic activity could reach its peak.

The ambassador further stated that both countries had strong prospects for the planned bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which would eventually help to strengthen the trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Indonesia.
