Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam, a desi noir anthology, is helmed by critically acclaimed British Indian director Meenu Gaur. The series features a stellar cast of leading actors from the subcontinent including Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Sheheryar Munawar, Sanam Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Mehar Bano, and Faiza Gillani among others.
Written by Farjad Nabi and Meenu Gaur, the serial takes place in the mythical neighborhood of Androon Shehr stories. Set against the backdrop of intrigue, power and betrayal, each story depicts a fearless woman and her quest to avenge deceit.
Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global, said, “After the success of the genre-bending Originals Churails and Dhoop Ki Deewar we’re thrilled to bring a brilliant anthology.”
She said they’ve “cherry picked” stories from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh that will not only entertain audiences but will also break stereotypes and create new, powerful female characters.
Talking about the series, Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Content Officer at Zee Entertainment said, “Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam challenges the stereotypical portrayal of women who are often perceived as victims. Each story in the anthology showcases courageous, bold women who decide to take charge of things when their limits are pushed. These women are fatal to patriarchy and go several extra miles to seek what they want at any cost.”
In a press release, creator and director Meenu Gaur said, “With the dominance of a male-centric gaze especially in the noir genre, I was keen to explore a new interpretation, one which is told from the perspective of the much-maligned femme fatale (Qatil Haseena) characters. It is an attempt to correct the sexism of film noir and try our hands at feminist noir.”
According to co-writer Farjad Nabi, the serial will wave “goodbye to the victim woman as seven femme fatales get their way through methods that are unexpected, sometimes horrifying, but always liberating.”
