Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said that he is utterly disappointed with the PTV after the state broadcaster sent him a recovery notice of PKR100 million.
The PTV has earlier announced that it has sent a recovery notice to Shoaib Akhtar for damages worth PKR103.3 million for “being absent from shows during the T20 World Cup and for resigning from his position without serving a notice period”.
The legal notice informed the former cricketer that he has to pay an amount of PKR100 million as damages along with PKR3.3 million, which is equivalent to a three-month salary as the bowler resigned without serving the notice period.
The legal notice said that in case of failure, PTVC reserves its rights to initiate legal proceedings against Akhtar before the court of competent jurisdiction.
PTV in its notice issued to the former bowler maintained that Akhtar had resigned from the channel on October 26, which was not “only a violation of the clause but also resulted in huge financial losses to the channel”.
“As per clause 22, both sides shall have right to terminate his agreement by serving three months’ written notice or payment in lieu thereof. Whereas, Shoaib Akhtar resigned on air on October 26 which has resulted into huge financial losses to PTV,” it read.
“You [Akhtar] also left [for] Dubai during T20 World Cup transmission without any prior information to PTVC management. Besides, appearance on an Indian TV show along with Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, also caused irreparable losses to PTV.”
Responding to the recovery notice by PTV, Akhtar responded on Twitter, saying, “Utterly Disappointed. After miserably failing to safeguard my respect and repute while I was working for PTV, they have now sent me a recovery notice. I am a fighter & will not give up & fight this legal battle. My lawyer Salman Niazi will take this forward according to law.”
