During the last three years, Pakistan Post has improved its international ranking by 32 places moving from 94th place to 62nd according to an official statement.

In the latest 2021 rankings, released by the global organisation of postal services “the Universal Postal Union (UPU) of 168 countries,” Pakistan Post has jumped up by five places from 67 to 62. The state-owned enterprise has also increased its revenue by PKR5 billion.

This could, in part, be attributed to the Pakistan Post’s rest house facility that had been introduced in 2019 to promote tourism across Pakistan and boost revenue.

The Pakistan Post had opened 41 rest houses, located at scenic locations, for domestic and foreign tourists at economical prices.

Rest houses were divided into 3 categories: Category-A, B and C with different price points for each. Category A rest houses are located in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Jhelum, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nathia Gali, Hyderabad, and Quetta and are slightly more expensive than the rest at PKR3,000/-. Category B and C cost PKR2,200/- and PKR1,200 respectively and are located mostly in the scenic northern areas.

With tourism slowly coming back to life after being shut down due to the pandemic and hotel prices soaring, the Post’s rest houses are surely to be in high demand once again.
