Pakistan has reported a total of 552 new cases due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while the positivity rate was recorded at 1.40 per cent. Around 39,179 tests were conducted across the country and the active case count has now reached 24,081.
Meanwhile, 15 more people lost their lives to the virus, taking the nationwide death toll to 28,359, as per latest figures shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
The number of total infections now stands at 1,267,945. The number of patients in critical condition across the country are at 1,648.
As per nationwide breakdown from NCOC, 467,142 coronavirus cases have been reported in Sindh, 438,818 in Punjab, 177,349 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 106,655 in Islamabad, 33,171 in Balochistan, 34,428 in Azad Kashmir, and 10,382 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Number of vaccines administered in Pakistan crosses 100 million mark: Asad Umar
Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has announced that the total number of coronavirus vaccination doses administered in the country has exceeded 100 million.
The doses were administered to 68 million people, of which more than 38 million are fully vaccinated while 30 million have been administered one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, he said in a tweet.
The minister urged people to get their second doses, terming it “extremely important”.

New Zealand’s covid-19 outbreak spreads to South Island
New Zealand has recorded 104 new coronavirus cases, including the first community case of the virus in the country’s South Island in nearly a year, health officials said.
Most of the new infections were reported in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city that has been under a strict lockdown for more than two months. Looser restrictions are in place in most of the rest of the country of five million, according to Reuters.
The risks of a further spread from the case reported in Blenheim, in the north east of the South Island, remained low, health officials said, with the person likely in the late stage of infection.
Global case load
Globally, the coronavirus caseload has topped crossed 242.9 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.93 million and vaccinations soared to over 6.76 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As per latest figures gathered by the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), the current global caseload, death toll and the total number number of vaccine doses administered stood at 242,918,979, 4,936,844 and 6,763,349,919, respectively.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 45,380,032 and 735,169, according to the CSSE.
In terms of infections, India follows in the second place with 34,143,236 cases.
The other worst countries with over 3 million cases are Brazil (21,711,843), the UK (8,730,715), Russia (8,041,581), Turkey (7,800,766), France (7,215,584), Iran (5,844,589), Argentina (5,278,910), Spain (4,997,732), Colombia (4,988,021), Italy (4,733,557), Indonesia (4,238,594), Germany (4,452,547) and Mexico (3,777,209), the CSSE figures showed.
