The college teachers in Punjab are no longer allowed to use social media platforms and speak to the conventional media, as per directives issued by the Directorate of Public Instructions (DPI) Colleges.

As per reports, DPI Colleges, Punjab has issued directions regarding the use of social media by government servants to all public sector divisional director colleges and principals.

The notification reportedly says that using social media is against the rules of services and that under the rules no government servant is allowed to take part in any media platform except with the express permission of the government.

The notification said, the rule number 18 of the rules of service bans such individuals from sharing information or documents with someone not authorized to receive it, even the media.

Meanwhile, Rule 22 bars such individuals from making any statement of fact or opinion that may embarrass the government “in any document published or in any communication made to the press or in any public utterance or television programme or radio broadcast delivered by him or her”.

Aside from that, the notification said that rules 21, 25, 25-A and 25 B of the Rules bar a “government servant from expressing views against ideology and integrity of Pakistan or any government policy or decision”.

Government servants are also prohibited from offering views on any social platform that may harm, the national or friendly relations with foreign states, derail public order, promote indecency, or amount to contempt of court.

The notification states that disciplinary under the rules would be taken against any violation of the Punjab Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1966.
