The major issue being discussed on Twitter this week is the protest by medical students outside PMCPakistan Medical Commission (PMC) building, in addition to the clash between police and students that happened on Wednesday night.
An online protest is also being carried out in support of Mohammad Gibrail, who has been expelled by Karachi’s Institute of Business Administration (IBA) for posting on social media about an alleged harassment incident he witnessed.
Meanwhile, cricket, especially developments related to the National T20 Cup, is also being discussed on Twitter.
Let’s see what trending in Pakistan this week and why.
The medical students are protesting against the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) for the past five days and they are demanding from the government to hold the test again on a single day across the country.
The protest turned violent on Wednesday night when the students made an attempt to march towards the Prime Minister house. It is being reported that the Police used force against the students. This resulted in several protestors getting injured and hospitalized, while many of them have been arrested.
The social media has condemned the attack on the students and the users have urged the government to address the issues of students in a peaceful manner.
Twitter users are criticizing the management of IBA Karachi for expelling a student who witnessed and publically highlighted through Facebook an alleged harassment incident at the university.
Mohammad Gibrail in a Facebook post wrote that o August 25, he witnessed a female employee of the finance department of IBA Karachi getting harassed by a male employee in a supervisory position. The student supported the female victim in lodging a formal complaint with the management.
The institute has now expelled Gibrail for reporting the incident on social media instead of using the “right channels” established by the institute, according to a statement shared on IBA’s Facebook page.
The Twitter is condemning the action by IBA Karachi and slamming the institute for punishing the student who raised voice against harassment.
Today Jibrael was literally thrown out by @ibakarachi not even allowed to collect possessions from hostel. Jibrael belongs to Lakki Marwat, he scored 90%+ in matric/inter, got admission in IBA on scholarship, became TA & sacrificed everything 2 months before graduation for truth https://t.co/rBgRvk3ozT

The young pacer from Pakistan cricket team Naseem Shah is trending on Twitter for past few days now. On September 25, the bowler was being praised for his bowling speed and exceptional performance against Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
However, in a recent match against Northern team, the bowler gave 23 runs in just one over. Shadab Khan, who was at the batting end of the wicket hit 3 sixes and one boundary against Naseem, securing an easy win for his team.

It was being reported earlier that the batsmen Sohaib Maqsood might lose his spot in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad as his performance in the National T20 Cup is very poor. However, the Southern Punjab opening batsman has now silenced all the critics after displaying exceptional batting skills against Northern bowlers in the 10th March of the tournament.
Sohaib scored an impressive 75 runs from 47 balls. During his innings, he smashed 8 fours and four sixes.
The Twitter has come out in support for the batsmen and are encouraging him to perform much better in the next matches of the tournament.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea has intensified to deep depression around 250 kilometers away from Karachi. The department has warned that the rain-bearing system could transform into a “cyclonic storm”.
With the warning issued, the Twitter is urging all citizens of Karachi to keep themselves safe in extreme weather conditions. Few users have also highlighted the inadequate measurements taken by the Karachi administration against the incoming threat.
