Some fake media reports have been circulating on social media claiming that Lahore’s famous eatery Butt Karahi has been sealed by the food authority for serving dead animals’ meat.
However, the reality is very different from what is being shared on the media. While issuing clarification on the matter, the Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner, Umer Sher Chattha in a twitter post said that the eatery was sealed for violating covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
AC city sealed it due to Civid SOP violation, not because of serving dead animal https://t.co/I1xCpknsAJ

Butt Karahi was allowing indoor dining which is currently banned in Lahore due to the rise in positivity rate after the spread of fourth wave in Pakistan. The local administration took action against the restaurant and sealed the eatery while arresting the manager on spot.
This event highlights one of the major issues of social media in Pakistan, especially Twitter, where users tweet and reshare unverified news pieces without giving a thought about the outcome of their trends. It is high time that we start verifying things on social media before spreading them further.
Meanwhile, this would be the second time in less than nine months that Butt Karahi has been sealed in Lahore for the same reason.
Back in December 2020, the authorities had sealed the restaurant situated in Lahore’s Lakshmi Chowk for floating SOPs and allowing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President, Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders to have indoor dining despite ban.
