The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is trying to prevent foreign players to take part in the Kashmir Premier League (KPL), that is scheduled to begin on August 6 in Pakistan.

The Indian board has issued warnings to foreign boards to not allow their players to participate in KPL. Following the threat, several foreign cricketers withdrew from the event, however, KPL President Arif Malik has said that the tournament will go ahead as scheduled, adding that Pakistani cricketers will participate.

India board has threatened the players by saying that if they went to Kashmir for KPL, they won’t be allowed to play any cricket event, including IPL, in India.

The six foreign cricketers, who have excused themselves from the KPL include; Herschelle Gibbs, Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah, Tenu Best and Monty Panser.

Gibbs also highlighted the issue in a post from his Twitter account, where he said that BCCI is trying to prevent him from playing KPL, adding that they also threatened of denying him entry in India if he participates in the league.

Gibbs later told SportsKeeda that the person issuing the threat was BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. “It came from Mr Shah. (The) message was sent to Graeme Smith who passed it on to me,” he said.

Dilshan to take part in KPL despite pressure

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan, has announced that he will KPL despite the Indian pressure. Dilshan is playing for the Muzaffarabad Tigers.

The first-ever edition of KPL event will continue for 10 days, with six teams vying for the prestigious trophy in 18 matches from August 6 to August 17.
