This entire week has seen some pretty strange Twitter trends in Pakistan, which range from hilarious to sad, and some that can leave you speechless. The few trends that appeared at the end of the week highlight the dark side of prominent individuals in the country.
Started with the trending hashtag of PSL 6, the week ended with the sad event, when a leaked video showing religious scholar sexually assaulting one of his students, got viral over the internet.

The remaining matches of PSL 6 resumed on June 9, this month and people are sharing the highlights of each match on Twitter with the hashtag PSL6. The tournament has now entered in its final stages, with just a few matches left before the final game.
Boycott Zara (#boycottzara)
Boycott Zara started to trend on Twitter when the head designer of the famous Spanish brand Vanessa Perilman made hateful and Islamophobia comments about Palestine in a conversation with a Palestinian model from occupied east Jerusalem, Qaher Harhash.
Qaher exposed the conversation on social media, after which the entire world called out the brand to take action against the designer and showed their support to the model and people of Palestine.
Parliament, National Assembly and some related hashtags started trending on June 16 after National Assembly in Pakistan turned into a battleground as the opposition and treasury members scuffled with each other and tossed budget documents and books.
The nation, which was shocked, by the actions of elected parliaments in the national assembly called out the politicians for their inappropriate behavior.
Shaheen Afridi (#shaheenafridi)
Shaheen Afridi started trending on twitter after the fast bowler had a verbal fight with Sarfaraz Ahmed during the PSL 6 match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. Both players apologized to each other later, terming the incident as the “heat of the moment” act.
Dhoop ki Dewar (#dhoopkidewar, #banDhoopKiDewar)
The trailer for Dhoop ki Dewar web series was released on June 15, and the Pakistani Twitter reacted with love and hate responses on the storyline. Many praised the actors Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly and the series for highlighting an important issue. The rest were angry, and said that the series is against the narrative of Pakistan and puts a dent on the struggle of Kashmiris.
Ronaldo Coca Cola (#ronaldococacola)
Ronaldo in a press conference removed bottle of Coca-Cola which were on display and placed a water bottle in their place instead. The act by the famous footballer cost the brand a loss of $4 billion.
The company’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 almost immediately after Ronaldo’s gesture, a 1.6 per cent dip. The market value of Coca-Cola went from $242bn to $238bn – a drop of $4bn.
Mufti Azizur Rehman (#muftiazizurrehman)
The religious scholar is facing massive outrage from the public after a leaked video showing the Mufti sexually assaulting one of his students without his consent, went viral over the internet. The people called out the police and the government to take strict action against him.
