Teamup has partnered with the Corporate Coalition for Viral Hepatitis Elimination, SensusDx and Ferozsons Laboratories Limited to organize the first of its kind hackathon on Hepatitis C eradication. The hackathon aims to bring innovators, health hackers, entrepreneurs, and medical experts onto a common platform to find solutions that can curb the spread of the disease in Pakistan.

Pakistan has the second highest HCV prevalence in the world. Approximately 11 million people are living with Hep C and on average 64 deaths occur daily due to the disease in the country. While the disease is curable in most cases, however lack of awareness and late diagnosis contribute to the high transmission and death rates in the country.

In 2019, the Corporate Coalition for Viral Hepatitis Elimination was established to improve awareness, education and treatment of Hepatitis C for the coalition employees, their families, and the larger community in Pakistan. Around 18 public and private sector organizations are part of the coalition, with more than 160,000 employees are a part of the program. For the National Hepatitis C Hackathon, the Corporate Coalition has partnered with Teamup – an incubation and acceleration platform, running the National Incubation Center in Islamabad since 2016 with its partners Jazz and Ignite. Teamup has rich experience conducting hackathons and innovation challenges for various development and corporate sector organizations and has worked with more than 200 startups over the last five years, providing them marketing, investment, legal, and product development support and more.

Programmers, healthcare professionals, data analysts, and entrepreneurs can apply for the Hackathon under the following thematic areas:

Prevention:

  • Effective news dissemination, specially in rural areas of the country
  • Designing low-cost solutions to minimize transmission rates
  • Designing implementation strategies for safe injection practices

Detection:

  • Digital tools to track progression of screening and treatment
  • Digital tools to trace high risk groups
  • Detection and control of HCV outbreak
  • Developing tools for measuring test, treatment and cure rates in population

Management:

  • Designing tools for improved health management, including optimized allocation of health funds
  • Developing sustainable funding models for hepatitis population screening
  • Developing disease management dashboards
  • Developing tele health tools for the rural population

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a two-day hackathon whereby they will pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts, seasoned entrepreneurs and investors. The winners of the challenge will get cash prizes and a chance to work with industry experts to scale their solution and make real impact in the health industry.

If you are:

  • an entrepreneur
  • a student pursuing undergraduate or a post-graduate degree in health, science, computer science, design, engineering, ICT and other related fields
  • a Health Professional
  • or a Data Analyst,

and have an idea that can help curb the spread of the deadly Hepatitis C, this is an opportunity not to be missed. You can apply here. The last date to apply is 11 July, 2021.
