A much awaited electronic payment system for traffic challans was successfully introduced in Punjab to curb road safety violations.
The Punjab Safe City Authority’s (PSCA) new e-challan sms system makes it easier to check if a vehicle has been challaned by messaging its number to “8815.” “The people could get the information on all outstanding e-challans and payable fines through text sms immediately,” said a spokesman for PSCA here on Monday.
“This system would resolve the issue of many people not getting e-challans at their addresses because their vehicle was not registered under their name. All bank lease and company registered vehicle users would also be able to get e-challan information easily,” he added.
E Challans can now easily be paid through the mobile banking system, through internet banking, through the ATM service and helpline number. “This step is for the convenience of common citizens as it will also help maintain social distance during the Covid period,” the spokesperson said.
Citizens will simply get text on their mobile phones if they are found in violation. Anyone travelling to Lahore would also be monitored under the e-challan system and will be fined for not adhering to Punjab’s traffic rules.
