A large number of tourists and athletes of all age groups, including children under 10 years till 16, women and men participated in the second Swat Marathon held in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district by the Malam Jabba Ski Resort in collaboration with a leading hotel group.
In the 2nd Marathon, a total of 300 athletes from all over the world and Pakistan visited the tranquil sites of Malam Valley. Conservator of Forest KP, Ejaz Khan was invited as the chief guest for the award distribution ceremony.
A large number of spectators from across the country also turned up during the event.
The Marathon was organized to promote winter sports and tourism in the region of Swat. In Swat, a variety of tracks are available including a track of five kilometer, 10 kilometer, 12.5 kilometer, and 42 kilometer.
Ejaz Khan addressing the award ceremony said, “I am glad to see the efforts of the resort management to organize such kind of extreme sports and adventurous activities and spirit of the locals to make their participation from all over Pakistan. Let’s keep our Pakistan clean and green”.
Clinching the first prize for the longest 42 km track was Israr Khatak, followed by Fida Hussain at second spot and Shahid Abbas at the third.
The other attractions of the events were live performance by Hunza Folk Band, which began by giving a tribute to the mountaineer Ali Sadpara – who died while summiting K2 in winter – followed by several instrumental tracks, mash ups in Urdu and Brushiski on which the audience danced.
